I haven't posted on here in a long time. Not for any reason other than I've been busy. But this needs to be said and it's the easiest way I know to make a link of my thoughts for my friends and family and whoever else may read it.
I had a good friend, who understands my thought process, who posted, on facebook, a comparison of Islam to Christianity and the difference in how they treat women. I replied in a way that I both stand beside, and feel was insensitive. And here it is.
Here’s the thing.
Religion has been responsible for people doing some of the greatest things on the planet. Religion has made people stand up for the little guy, it’s made people fight for the greater good, it’s made people put their lives on hold to do good.
It has also been the seed of war. The seed of genocide. The seed of torture. The seed of oppression. The seed of hate.
So, what is the point?
Read your Bible, your Torah, your Quran… Whatever your holy book is. Please READ it.
I shouldn’t have to tell you that your holy book doesn’t even remotely stand for the rights of women. I shouldn’t have to tell you that your God supports the rape of women, slavery, spousal abuse, racism, violence, bigotry, odd food eccentricities, suppression of women, suppression of people different than you, killing of God’s own people, holy wagers made with the ‘devil’ that kill innocents’, murder, baby murder, homophobia, sexism…
The list literally goes on farther than I’m patient enough to deal with.
What’s the point of all of this?
Feel with your own heart. Think with your own mind.
And if you believe in and respect your God, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE… READ HIS WORD!
I WANT EVERYONE to read the Bible, the Torah and the Quran.
I want people to understand that the things they believe in matter.
They certainly matter to me. As I have to abide by laws that specifically have to deal with those ideals.
If you wish to be a child of God, that’s fine, be one. But live by his word. Respect him enough to read his book.
If I did believe in a God… I’d take a couple of days off to read about what he felt about the world.
When someone, who doesn’t believe in your God, pays more respect to Him than you do by reading His word… THERE’S A FUCKING PROBLEM.
You can hate me as much as you want. It won’t do anything to me.
How does your God see you? Being angry about someone who is simply asking you to do Him the service of ‘reading His word’.
And if you’re offended…You’re the problem.
Follow your God. Read his word. And if you haven’t yet. Start now. You owe Him and the world that.
Honestly, I shouldn’t have to tell you that.
Respect your God. Read his word. And stop listening to the words of others.
In the end.. You are responsible for yourself. You should care about what your God says.
Jesus on one hand told people to “turn the other cheek.” And on the other, he said he said ‘he came to bring a sword… and to turn father against son’.
Make up your own mind.
